Cooker manufacturers Creda have offered to modify a cooker which can be turned on by just brushing against it. Around 25,000 models of the high-tech Concept Solar Plus model have been sold since the range was introduced in may 1987.
Creda acted after two pensioners in Bristol woke to find their kitchen chocked by smoke. One of them had accidently turned on the cooker when he brushed passed it.
Creda's Service Director said that Creda would modify the model for anyone who was worried. From September (1988) they would all be modified.
