Dear Members

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the recent death of Dr James Quintiere. Occasionally known as Dr Q or more frequently just as Jim, his contribution to the world of Fire Investigation cannot be over-stated  with 148 journal articles, 54 reports and the authoring of 3 books, with what is considered by some to be his seminal work, Principles of Fire Behaviour, 2nd edition, released in 2016, leaving a legacy that deserves all the accolades it receives. Educated as a Mechanical Engineer and receiving his Bachelor of Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1962, soon followed by a Masters’ in 1966 and Doctorate in 1970, Jim went on to chair or be involved in an extensive range of committees, been the worthy recipient of many awards and been consulted on in relation to many notable fires such as the Branch Davidian Fire in Waco, Texas and the World Trade Centre attacks and fires in 2001.

Jim will be sorely missed not only as an incredibly intelligent individual who was freely giving of his time and knowledge to educate students across the world, but as a gentlemen of the highest standing. Our sincere condolences and best wishes are extended to his family and close friends at this most tragic of times. Please join me in giving a few moments of your time to remember and thank Jim for his presence amongst us and for giving us so much.
