The CLAIR (Criminal Legal Aid Independent Revue) report undertaken by Sir Christopher Bellamy and his panel of experts was published in December 2021 along with the Government's plans to for responding to it. The Government's formal response was published March 2022. One major component is the need to increase funding with a 15% injection in funds across a number of Legal Aid areas in both magistrate and crown levels. Where it leaves Legal Aid for experts is not overtly apparent; the Crown Court section at 147 d) says only there will be a 15% increase in "all expert fees".
